Villamartin Area
Villamartin has become one of the most popular locations on the Costa Blanca and although the golf courses provide a huge attraction for many visitors, the area has a whole lot more to offer.
With a real sense of community Villamartin residents have made their urbanisations and communal areas into attractive and welcoming places for visitors. The area encompasses several commercial centres so supermarkets, banks and entertainment are never far away. And its only 5 minutes drive from the popular sandy beaches at La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campoamor. Villamartin is fairly busy all year round but if you don´t like crowds avoid the July/August period or stay in the quieter areas like Las Ramblas or El Galan.
Villamartin sits at the centre of the Orihuela Costa region encompassing La Zenia, Blue Lagoon, El Galan and Los Dolses, as well as the golf resorts of Las Ramblas and the 4-star Campoamor Hotel and Sports complex. New kid on the block, La Fuente commercial centre is building up a good following and has given a much-needed boost to the resort with a supermarket, pharmacy and a great choice of bars and restaurants.
The famous and atmospheric Villamartin Plaza is still the hub of entertainment in the area though with its palm covered
courtyard, resident paraqueets and a wealth of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. Some great new ones have opened up during the past year and the credit crunch has brought prices down so now the choice is even better!! Enjoy a sundowner in one of the terrace bars, take your time over a nice meal, then a night-cap or three in one of the late bars with live entertainment. Perfecto! For the younger generation (and the young-at-heart) there are late bars in La Fuente too, with live music, DJ nights and/or karaoke (love it or hate it..), and the infamous Cabo Roig strip is just a 10 minute cab ride away.

Eating and Drinking in Villamartin area
Here you are so spoilt for choice that am afraid we aren´t going to have room for everything!! Lets start with where it all began….
Villamartin Plaza - Top quality restaurants aplenty, they are all good and some are excellent. We recommend (in no particular order) Bogeys - varied menu, we have tried most things and never been disappointed, La Plaza, (read our review) – stylish lounge area, TV sports, great food and top quality live entertainment most nights. For steaks Che is the place to head for and for something a bit special try The Square (read our review) or Eduardo´s, both top quality food and service. All the restaurants have outdoor terraces in the summer. Good bars include Chemies for chilling´n´meeting, The Palms for lounging, 3 sports screens and decent food, Barrys for late night karaoke and for the morning after, The Winchester or Munchies both serve great breakfasts.
Across the road from the Plaza is Drivers sports bar with Sky sports and a year-round sun terrace. Great for a pre-dinner drink before heading next door to one of our favourite Italian restaurants La Dolce Vita, great food and happy prices before 7.15pm.
La Rioja/Los Dolses - Two commerical centres about 10 minutes walk from the Plaza. In La Rioja we highly recommend Interim, limited menu but the food and service are superb. Another good Italian is here too, Solo Mio. Gossip Bar on the 1st level is proving to be a popular choice for pre and after-dinner drinks with an easy atmosphere and comfy seating. In Los Dolses there are numerous
bars with food, very popular during the daytimes but not so busy as the Plaza and La Fuente at night. On the top level Jim is back at Nicky´s Bar and welcoming back customers old and new with regular entertainment and an enclosed terrace in winter. Next door Sharon and James are now established in V´s Bistro and wine bar serving great food til late. For sports fans Madigans and Gingers both have several screens and for a nice friendly local-style atmosphere try PB´s, a comfortable bar and always popular for the excellent Sunday lunch. There are also Indian, Greek, Chinese and German restaurant options.
Campoamor/El Galan - There´s a selection of English-style bars and cafes scattered around this area, mostly serving pub meals. A few are worth noting, Captains Table does great fish and chips with huge portions and a fantastic sun terrace at the back, The Vault is a new stylish bar/restaurant with bistro-type menu , and just up the road towards
Campoamor The Royal Oak is popular with families as it has a childrens playa area outside.
The newly opened La Fuente centre is filling up nicely with good quality bars and restaurants offering a variety of daytime and evening entertainment. We love Fuego upstairs, s wine bar and bistro offering great tapas and daily specials, 3 sports screens and a sunny terrace all year round. Opposite is Bernie DÁrcys, one of two Irish bars on the complex, the other being The Stray Sod downstairs. Both offer traditional pub food and excellent live bands on most nights. Crystals is a classy restaurant but with an affordable Wine n Dine menu, and a few doors down is the ridiculously named but great value Southern Beauty, Cantonese cuisine which is way way better than your average Chinese over here. Harmonies downstairs offer a friendly welcome and excellent home-made food all day long and on the front terrace the Scandanavian-owned La Piazza is always busy with good food and reasonable prices. We haven´t tried the newly opened Spanish Tapas bar yet but behind La Fuente is a rarity in the area, a typical Spanish spit and sawdust bar called Tamesis. Its the nearest you will get to proper Spain around here….
La Zenia – Moving towards the coast the area of La Zenia has some well established cafes, bars and restaurants, most notably the two Irish bars, Goghartys and Paddys Point, both with live music at weekends and very popular. Alejandro´s opposite is a daytime cafe serving good food and is packed all year round. For beer connoiseurs there is a new huge German bar/cafe opened this year next to LLoyds bank with its own brewery and staff in authentic Bavarian costumes. Will certainly be popular with the Germans but not sure about the wider audience..we wait and see. Across the N332 and behind the main road to the beach is a small commercial area known as La Zenia Village with a couple of good restaurants, notably Indigo, a superb Indian restaurant and Little Italy,
which needs no explanation I´m sure. There are several good bars serving food, Joe at the Red Sea cafe always gives a good welcome and tapas with an Eastern twist, and a couple of Spanish bars with pretty terrace areas. Make sure you visit The Vi llage on your way back from the beach, its the perfect wind-down place for sundowners or stay longer for dinner. Right on the beach is Mirador, a huge Spanish cafe/ restaurant, food is OK but nothing special but its a great lunchspot or coffee break stop overlooking the beach.
