Asia Chic – Cabo Roig

March 2010 – This restaurant has been on our list for just an age and we got the opportunity to sample when some friends who visit regularly invited us to join them. Previously it was on the “excellent but pricey” list but, as with so many places since El Crisis, there is now a set price 3-course Menu del Dia/Noche served between 12 noon and 4pm, and from 6-8pm. In fact there are two, priced at 8€ and 10€.

The 8€ menu appeared to offer more choices so we plumped for that and since there were six of us we were able between us to sample everything on the menu. Starter choice was Sesame Prawns (Steve´s favourite), Chicken & Corn Soup (Paul says it was delicious) or Sushi, which was the choice for the rest of us. We got 8 pieces of rice rolled in seaweed with a mixture of centres, served with ginger and a wasabi paste. A word of warning, the wasabi paste is seriously hot…of course the two guys had to have a macho contest as to who could eat the biggest lump…boys will be boys!!

We ordered all the main courses to share, all of which came with rice or noodles, so there was plenty for everyone. We had Shogi Aki Beef, Chicken Curry, Prawns Gong Bao, Lemon Chicken and 2 portions of Duck in Plum Sauce. Delicious…we couldn´t fault any of them except perhaps the chicken curry which was a bit on the bland side.

Dessert choice was Fresh Fruit Salad, Creme Caramel or Ice Cream, not exactly inspiring but since most of us were stuffed anyway it mattered not. Schnapps and hot towels were delivered with the bill, those little extras that make a person want to come back..full marks to them.

Bearing in mind it is still winter, there were a fair few tables occupied, the ambience was good and the service was friendly and attentive but not over the top. There is a comfortable lounge area for apres-dining with coffee or mulling over the menus before you sit down. On the whole we were well impressed with Asia Chic and will definately be back.
