Maritao´s Kitchen II – Campoamor
June 2011 – Just the two of us for this one so not able to sample a great deal but after a hot, busy and bothered day (TGIF) we went in search of some cool terrace action. Maritao´s is a successful and busy restaurant in Playa Flamenca and their second restaurant opened here in Campoamor next to the Royal Oak pub in the spring of 2010. Having heard good reports we finally got around to sitting down there.
Attentive and smiley staff brought us a chilled bottle of very passable house vino while we looked at the menu. Maritao´s is an Asian restaurant, not to be confused with the cheap (and often nasty) Chinese woks and buffets. Japanese, Mongolian, Thai and Malaysian dishes are on offer as well as old Chinese favourites such as spare ribs, crispy duck and sweet and sour pork. By now live music was playing, a singing duo who were fairly average it has to be said, but nevertheless added to the pleasant and relaxing ambience on the terrace.
We slipped up a bit on our starters ordering the Peking Duck instead of the Crispy Duck to share, no pasa nada, it was carved at the table and very tasty nonetheless. Just not crispy…Anyway the main courses more than made up for our slight disappointment. Glynis sampled the Thai Curry Prawns which was loaded with big juicy prawns with a spicy, but not too hot, curry sauce and plenty of rice. My main course portion was just as huge, I ordered the house speciality, called Baozai, a delicious combination of rice, beef and beansprouts served in a sizzling wok. You can also order this dish with chicken, prawns or a combination of all three. Just gorgeous!!
Just as we were finishing up the skies blackened and everyone scurried inside, except us and another table as we finished our wine and chatted in the cool evening air. Overall our visit was the perfect relaxing remedy to a not-so-perfect day, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the ambience of Maritao´s and will be back for sure….
(And no, it didn´t rain…ha ha!)
